In January 2014, ENV carried out a review of criminal prosecutions which involved rare and endangered wildlife species that are currently listed in Group 1B of Decree 32/2006 and are fully protected under Vietnamese law.   

Last Friday, on March 28, ENV hosted a roundtable meeting about investigating and prosecuting major wildlife crime syndicates. The meeting involved representatives of environmental and economic police, prosecutors and judges.    

ENV continues to target Phuc Tho district, a bear farming ‘hotspot’ with a high concentration of bear farms, with various innovative strategies, such as contacting the bear farmers themselves and working in the schools of the children of the farmers, to end bear bile farming in the area.  

Over 6000 wildlife crime cases have been documented by ENV’s Wildlife Crime Hotline from Jan 2005 to March of 2014.  Over 4000 volunteers, in 33 provinces, assist with monitoring and surveying consumer wildlife trade hotspots in urban centers throughout Vietnam.  

As well as the telephone ENV hotline 1800-1522, our email hotline, Hotline@fpt.vn, offers another way for people to report wildlife crime and make a difference, and as our hotlines continue to become more and more popular, ENV is able to achieve so much more.   

March is an important month for young people in Vietnam, as the 26th is National Youth Day. To celebrate, young Vietnamese people take part in lots of activities that contribute to society.
