ENV continues to develop the capacity of our volunteer network to work for wildlife protection all over Vietnam. Last Sunday, both our Hanoi and Hai Phong groups had a successful day.  

Responsible for organizing the justice system, maintaining the legal system and upholding public order, the Ministry of Justice is one of the most important government agencies whose influence on the development of society is considered invaluable.    

The further we spread the “Say no to wildlife products” message, the better. One of ENV’s goals this year is to expand our reach across Vietnam, to help more people understand the importance of wildlife and stop using wildlife products. Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Police have just confirmed to ENV that 5 otters have been successfully rescued. Since October 2013, ENV has been following a young man who appears to sell otters on the internet.    

Last Friday, three leopard cats were successfully rescued as a direct result of a call to ENV’s wildlife crime hotline. ENV was informed that the cats were being kept in a restaurant in Dong Thap province, and duly informed local environmental police and Forest Protection Department.  

Yesterday, one of our dedicated volunteers reported the unlawful captivity of a civet and squirrel in Da Nang province. Upon notification of the offense, ENV immediately contacted the Forest Protection Department to look into the case.

Last Monday, a Southern Vietnamese Box Turtle (Cuora bourreti), an endemic species of central Vietnam and classified as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List and listed in Appendix II of Cites, was successfully rescued and transferred to the Asian Turtle Program before being received by the Turtle Conservation Center in Cuc Phuong National Park.

Last Friday, a grey-shanked douc langur (Pygathrix cinerea) was returned to the wild after the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC) advised that it was healthy enough to be released.
