Last Thursday, ENV conducted a wildlife crime survey in Vinh City, in the north of Vietnam, with the passionate support of thirteen volunteers. By the end of the survey, 60 restaurants and other businesses had been checked for violations. The ENV team is now working hard to process and log the data collected before transferring

Recognizing that the lead up to the Lunar New Year holiday period is often the time when wildlife trade increases rapidly as such products are used as gifts and for special meals, ENV continues to work hard to raise awareness of wildlife crimes.  

Yesterday, a member of ENV called our hotline to voluntarily transfer a keeled box turtle, which was kept in his neighbor’s house. Realizing that keeping wildlife is illegal, he advised his neighbor to give up the animal.  

Yesterday ENV’s Bear Protection Program Coordinator, an enthusiastic ENV volunteer and a representative of Hanoi Environmental police took part in an honest and interesting discussion about wildlife consumption as part of a popular TV talk show, to be aired on a Hanoi TV channel over the Lunar New Year.  

ENV joined Forest Rangers from the Lam Dong Forest Protection Department for the third straight day raiding restaurants in 3 towns of Bao Loc, Bao Lam and Di Linh.  The enforcement campaign targeting consumer establishments began in November 2013 and is spreading across the province hitting consumer establishments in major towns and district centers.
