US issues National Strategy for combating wildlife trafficking and commercial ban on trade in elephant ivory

The United States have announced a National Strategy which establishes guiding principles for the USA’s efforts in tackling the illegal trade in wildlife.

At the same time, the U.S. have also proclaimed a ban on the commercial trade of ivory, which prohibits all commercial imports of African elephant ivory, including antiques, as well as all commercial exports, with very limited exception. In this way, the United States aims to illustrate their commitment to global efforts in protecting the world’s iconic species for future generations.
