New decree clearly sanctions the extraction illegal wildlife products

Decree 157/2013/ND-CP, which replaces Decree 99/2009/ND-CP on administrative sanctions in forest management, takes effect today with some notable provisions.

The punishment for wildlife violations has been increased in order to deter others from committing similar crimes; the maximum fine is now 500 million VND (nearly $25,000) for individuals and one billion VND (nearly $50,000) for organizations who conduct illegal activities against wildlife. Furthermore, the laws on the act of extracting illegal wildlife products have been clarified, and now are clearly sanctioned in the new Decree.
