Last week, Vietnamese Customs uncovered yet another serious pangolin trafficking case in Hai Phong city. While checking suspicious parcels of frozen food, the Customs Inspection Team discovered cartons containing 3,040 kilograms of de-scaled whole pangolins, plus 990 kilograms of pangolin scales mixed with frozen squid and dried seahorses. All the goods were confiscated for further investigation.
As the biggest harbor city in the north of Vietnam, Hai Phong shares borders with Quang Ninh province, where local police uncovered the pangolin trafficking case we posted about yesterday. These cases highlight the prevalence of pangolin trafficking in this region of Vietnam and the importance of local authorities’ commitment to preventing wildlife trade in these provinces.
