Local authorities stick to their wildlife protection mission despite the floods

Back in July, the Forest Protection Department in Thai Nguyen province confiscated several protected wildlife species that were being kept without permits at the Phuc Xuan – Hoi Nui Coc Eco-tourism resort. The rescued wildlife included some rare and precious species protected under Vietnamese law, including an Asiatic rock python, a pig-tailed macaque, and a stump-tailed macaque.

Despite the floods and heavy rain that overwhelmed parts of Hanoi and northern Vietnam last Friday, authorities transferred the macaques to Soc Son Rescue Center in northern Hanoi and released the other species back into the wild.

As the rainy season continues over here in Vietnam, it is encouraging to see such committed local authorities braving the bad weather and forging ahead in the name of wildlife protection!
