As we await the next developments in the story of the precious leatherback turtle eggs we reported on last week, today we bring you some great news about some eggs that have already hatched!
On June 3, a large sea turtle settled on the Hai Giang coast in Nhon Hai to lay its eggs. Forty-eight days later, 110 baby sea turtles were born. A local turtle protection volunteer group released the turtles back into the ocean yesterday afternoon.
The Hai Giang coast and Hon Kho island in Nhon Ly, Binh Dinh are the two most common locations where sea turtles lay their eggs in Vietnam. Recognizing this, the local authorities established two volunteer groups to protect sea turtles and encourage locals and tourists to take active roles in sea turtle protection. The actions of the authorities and citizens of Binh Dinh make an important contribution to sea turtle conservation in Vietnam.
