Facts and Fiction: the Rhino Horn Trade

 

We’d like to share this great new fact sheet which provides an overview of the rhino poaching crisis, and supply and demand issues. It was published by the African Conservation Foundation, IUCN NL and the Environmental Investigation Agency (UK).

Myths of magical medicinal value, amongst other factors, have contributed to the recent exponential increase in demand for rhino horn in Vietnam.

 

This week, it was also announced that poachers are believed to have killed the last rhinos in Mozambique’s Limpopo National Park, pushing the rhino species one step closer to the edge of extinction globally. Adding to this, South Africa’s rhino poaching toll has reached 232 rhinos killed in the first 107 days of this year.
