Customs officials at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City have uncovered another case of elephant tusk smuggling from Africa to Vietnam.
59 pieces of tusk (weighing a total of 40kg) were found wrapped in tin foil and hidden under cashew nuts.
So far in 2014, Customs officials at Tan Son Nhat International Airport have discovered 6 elephant tusk smuggling cases. Combined with the news that elephant death rates have now risen higher than birth rates, this case is another loud alarm bell that the demand for ivory in Asia continues, and must be stopped urgently if these mighty animals are to survive.
