Good sign for wildlife conservation in 2014

As the New Year approaches, Vietnamese wildlife conservation organizations and individuals are glad to receive good news from the Government. After gathering comments and feedback from wildlife experts, relevant authorities and organizations (including ENV) at a consultation workshop, last week the Vietnam Centre Committee for Propaganda and Education (CCPE) issued Guideline 98-HD/BTGTW, with the aim of bringing the government’s policies on wildlife and wild plant protection to life.

The Guideline includes recommendations on communication strategies to conduct awareness-raising activities both in the short-term (in particular over the traditional Vietnamese holiday of Tet in 2014) and as part of long-term campaigns. This development shows promising signs of government support in the efforts to reduce consumer demand for wildlife products, which sadly continues to be an issue in Vietnam.
