Vietnamese news on xaluan.com reports that back in September, 14 fishermen were lost whilst poaching turtles in Quang Ngai province.
Sadly, their families did not immediately inform the authorities of the disappearance of their loved ones because of the illegal nature of the fishermen’s fatal activities, and instead attempted to conduct their own search. After no success, eventually the Quang Ngai authorities were contacted, and are currently still looking for the fishermen.
For many years, Sa Ky port in Quang Ngai province has been the main illegal market for turtles, bringing huge profits for wildlife traders. Tragically, it is often the fishermen who pay the price, as they risk their lives in rough seas, using just a rope to dive for the protected animals.
