Last week ENV coordinated a bear protection campaign in Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province, Central Vietnam. This district is widely recognized as one of the country’s bear farming “hotspots.”

On May 13th, a bear protection program and exhibition was held in Quynh Hau Middle School. More than 200 students signed pledge cards committing to “Say No to bear bile and products from bears.” Almost 100 students shared their ideas against the bear bile industry, and 21 of them said that they witnessed the bear bile extraction in person.
On May 14th, ENV held another bear protection exhibition for people in a local market. Although the weather did not support the program with a harsh heat, the exhibition still attracted nearly 100 residents to learn about the issue of bear bile, sign the bear pledge cards, and read provided publications.
Beside these two main activities, ENV’s officers also met with authorities in Quynh Luu District, as well as with authorities of the seven communes in the district to discuss bear farming management enhancement and about phasing out this business for good. The leaders of Quynh Luu District also supported ENV to air a radio show about bear protection in the area from May 14th to 16th.
