Policy & Legislation
ENV’s policy and legislation arm plays a central role in ENV’s strategy to combat wildlife crime. Established in 2008, ENV’s Legislative Team has been focusing on addressing major conflicts and loopholes in wildlife protection laws. Currently, ENV is working with government ministries to formulate a law aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of management at Vietnamese wildlife facilities.
Additionally, this ENV team works closely with court authorities across the country to promote the application of Penal Code 2015 (amended 2017) to prosecute wildlife criminals. As part of these efforts, ENV provides authorities with support during their investigation processes and assists them in the correct application of the law. When necessary, also ENV intervenes in the prosecution process to ensure local courts apply the law strictly and appropriately and criminals do not get away with their crimes.
ENV’s efforts have made a significant impact on national wildlife policy that is critical for strengthening wildlife protection in Vietnam. This impact is a result of advocating favorable government decisions on major policy issues identified by ENV and establishing important precedents at the national and provincial levels.
