Evaluation of performance in reducing consumer wildlife crime in four districts of Hanoi during the period 2015-2016

The consumer wildlife crime reduction campaign in the four violation hotspot districts of Hanoi continues to show signs of ineffective law enforcement with the number of violations only decreasing by 34.5%. Also, with 65.5% of business establishments which were reported with wildlife violations having not yet been addressed, it is obvious that authorities did not prioritize the issue of wildlife consumption. It is expected that the People’s Committees of the four districts will be more determined in future in getting the relevant agencies to improve their performance in reducing wildlife violations. A reduction of 95% should be considered an acceptable achievement target and reflective of tight and effective controls over consumer wildlife crime in the four districts.
