On May 16th, in partnership with Biodiversity Conservation Agency, ENV organized a seminar about wildlife protection for students at the Vietnam Forestry University. More than 230 students participated in the event and answered an ENV quiz.

On May 2, ENV’s Wildlife Crime Unit (WCU) received a message about a captive macaque via our English Facebook page. The message was from a European expatriate travelling in Lao Cai province, who found the monkey caged inside a restaurant in Bao Nhai commune.   

  On May 3, ENV’s Facebook fan-page received a message about a woman in Hanoi City who wished to give her pet macaque to the authorities. The macaque’s owner said that she had owned the monkey for ten years, but recently its temperament had changed, becoming ‘angry’ and ‘violent.’

ENV is calling on your support to help us bolster our volunteer network through a massive recruitment and training campaign focused on Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. 

After two years of chasing, the case of 102 critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtles (Eretmochelys imbricate) that were confiscated in Binh Dinh province (southern Vietnam) back in 2011 has finally closed, with both good and bad outcomes.

  This week the ENV mobile unit went to Hanoi University of Social Science and Humanities to hold a wildlife trade seminar. Nearly 100 students and lecturers attended the event, giving youngsters and elders alike the opportunity to discuss illegal wildlife trade issues in Vietnam, and what they can do to stop it.  

  On April 18, the ENV Wildlife Crime Hotline received a call from a volunteer reporting a macaque being kept in a store in Nghe An province (central Vietnam). ENV’s wildlife crime unit contacted the Quy Chau district FPD, who responded immediately, seizing a mature Stump-tailed macaque.  

On Tuesday April 16th, an ENV staff member informed the Wildlife Crime Unit that a Rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) was being illegally held in a restaurant in Cao Bang province (northern Vietnam). The monkey was confined in the restaurant’s warehouse and constrained by a chain around its neck.  

  On April 22, ENV, under USAID’s ARREST Program, hosted Vietnam’s first national awards ceremony to honor five excellent individuals for their outstanding contributions to wildlife protection. Here are short biographies for these five exceptional individuals, as well as their insights into wildlife protection.  

In the first case, on April 19, a man called ENV’s Wildlife Crime Hotline to report some young wildcats on the sandbar in the middle of the Red River in Hanoi. He said he found them while doing some agricultural work at the site.
