OVER 300 RUNNERS RUN TO RESCUE WILDLIFE! – #RUN4WILDLIFE 2024

Hanoi, December 8, 2024 – Education for Nature – Vietnam (ENV) in collaboration with Sporting Republic, hosted the 15th Song Hong Half Marathon – #Run4Wildlife at Ciputra Hanoi International City.

This year, over 300 runners from 26 countries participated in the race to help support this noble cause. Partners from the MARD RUNNERS CLUB (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center (HWRC), as well as teams from UNIS Hanoi, Hanoi French Hospital, and Topas Travel have joined in the half marathon to demonstrate their support for wildlife.

Vietnam has at least 30 wildlife rescue centers and sanctuaries spread throughout the country. Rescue centers provide critical support to local authorities in combatting illegal wildlife trafficking by providing placement options for animals that are confiscated from the illegal trade.

A prominent facility in this effort is the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center (HWRC), located in Soc Son District of Hanoi. Since its establishment in 1996, the HWRC has rescued more than 32,000 animals including many endangered species such as bears, tigers, pangolins, birds, and reptiles. The HWRC has also conducted 182 successful wildlife releases at protected areas across the country repatriating 22,163 individual animals back into nature.

This year’s event has raised awareness of the important role wildlife rescue centers play in protecting Vietnam’s biodiversity and fighting illegal wildlife trade, helping wildlife populations thrive.
